Step-by-Step Guide to Using Reflux Shield™ Effectively

How Reflux Shield™ Transforms Your Comfort

Reflux Shield™ alleviates the symptoms and discomfort of type 1 hiatal hernia, acid reflux, and GERD. It is simple and safe to use. Follow these steps.

Proper Use

The Reflux Shield™ should NOT be used over stomach scars, keloids, open wounds, stitches, warts, tumors, or cysts located in treatment areas. Always begin treatment by maneuvering the device gently over the area. After a few days, you can slowly build up pressure. Check out our instructional video for more details on how to use the Reflux Shield™ properly. Use lotion for more comfort (but it's not required) if you have dry skin. Breathe normally while performing the maneuver to yourself. You want to make sure your abdominal muscles are as relaxed as possible.

Step 1: Preparation

Before you begin, ensure that you are in a comfortable and relaxed position. Locate a quiet and peaceful environment for your Reflux Shield™ therapy session.

Step 2: Positioning

Place the Reflux Shield™ on a stable and flat surface, such as a bed or a couch. Make sure it's within easy reach.

Step 3: Body Position

Lie down on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the surface. This position helps relax your abdominal muscles and allows for optimal use of the Reflux Shield™. Use pillows under your knees for more relaxation of abdominal muscles if necessary.

Step 4: Locating the Treatment Area

Identify the treatment area. First, locate your xiphoid process (where your bottom ribs come together in the center, below your sternum), that area that turns from bone (bottom of your sternum) to soft (top of belly).

The Reflux Shield™ skin applicator starts in the center below the xiphoid process, with the rest of the skin applicator to the left. For some, the hiatus and stomach are in the center, and for others, they are slightly to the left. Proper placement is extremely important for favorable outcomes. The maneuver will cause the device to slide down just to the left of the umbilicus (belly button). Reflux Shield™ should never be used over stomach scars, keloids, open wounds, stitches, warts, tumors, or cysts.

Step 5: Beginning the Treatment

3. One hand on the ball handle, the other hand’s index finger on the other end on top of the skin applicator. Apply pressure with both hands toward the body to push the reflux shield underneath the rib (where the stomach herniates through the diaphragm). If results are slow, it is recommended to move the reflux shield slightly (¼ “) to the left or right, as stomach placement is slightly different for people. It is also recommended to try and go deeper with the device if results are slow to none. Start slow and easy and build up to a deeper massage after a week or two. Lotion can also be used for sensitive skin

5. Move the ball handle into reverse, neutral, and gradually towards your chest (30-45 degree angle) MAINTAIN CONSTANT STEADY PRESSURE THROUGHOUT, and the device will slide down the stomach and end slightly left of the belly button. Try and do the maneuver as you're slowly breathing out.

Step 6: Gradual Pressure

Over the course of several days, gradually increase the pressure to your comfort level. It's important to start gently and build up to avoid discomfort or bruising. Pain level should not be higher than a 5 (on a 1-10 Scale).

Consult Your Physician

Not for Type 2, 3, 4 Hiatal Hernias:

Reflux Shield™ is designed for reducing the symptoms of Sliding type 1 hiatal hernias, which account for more than 90-95% of those diagnosed.

Emergency Situations:

If you experience severe symptoms such as vomiting, inability to keep food down, or coughing up blood while using Reflux Shield™ or immediately after, seek emergency treatment immediately.

External Use Only:

Reflux Shield™ is for external use only. Do not use it while bathing, in the shower, or in the tub.

Adult Use Only:

Keep Reflux Shield™ out of reach of children. It is intended for use by adults only.

Do Not Use as a Toy:

Do not allow Reflux Shield™ to be used as a toy, especially near children.

Room Temperature:

Do not heat the Reflux Shield™ or place it in or near a heat source. Use the massager at room temperature.

Use as Directed:

Always use Reflux Shield™ as directed in the provided instructions. Misuse may cause injury.

Stop If You Experience Discomfort:

If you experience any discomfort, pain, bruising, or other unexpected symptoms while using Reflux Shield™, stop use immediately and consult your physician.

Seek Professional Advice:

If you are pregnant, elderly, or have preexisting health conditions, seek professional advice from your doctor before using Reflux Shield™.
